Why so many different smokeless fuels?

Nowadays there are so many different smokeless fuels on the market. We stock over 20 different kinds but there is double that amount available. One of the most common questions we are asked is “which is the best for my fire?”

The fuels we have in stock are made by three different manufactures to cater for a range of appliances. They all perform differently on different fires. Some burn hotter, some burn longer and some are better for a base. Like everything in life, it all comes down to cost, and there are many varying factors when it comes to costing the fuels. We are based in the south east of the country and most of the mining and manufacturing of the fuels is done in either Wales, Scotland or the North of England. Haulage costs are one of the main factors when it comes to price.

We stock a wide range of fuels and aim to provide a good quality fuel for a competitive price. There are some fuels on the marked that we could stock, but we choose not to as we feel that these fuels to not represent good enough value for money for our customers.

Over the last few seasons we have tried to introduce different briquettes to suit different budgets and lifestyles, and in 2017 we have introduced four new smokeless fuels, Homefire eCoal, Excel, Homefire Olive Briquettes and Budgetflame.

These fuels range from economy to premium, it’s worth trying them all as sometimes the fuel that costs less can work as well as the more expensive.
